Esercizi sui corpi rigidi
M = F \cdot d
\sum F = 0 \quad \text{e} \quad \sum M = 0
-
M = I \cdot \alpha
Soluzione:
La distanza d è 2m:M = F \cdot d = 10 \, \text{N} \cdot 2 \, \text{m} = 20 \, \text{N m}
-
Soluzione:
La forza di gravità P è:P = m \cdot g = 6 \, \text{kg} \cdot 9.81 \, \text{m/s}^2 = 58.86 \, \text{N}
N = P \cdot \cos(30^\circ) = 58.86 \cdot \frac{\sqrt{3}}{2} \approx 50.96 \, \text{N}
-
Soluzione:
Utilizziamo la relazione tra momento torcenti e accelerazione angolare:M = I \cdot \alpha \implies \alpha = \frac{M}{I} = \frac{15 \, \text{N m}}{5 \, \text{kg m}^2} = 3 \, \text{rad/s}^2

Rigid Body Exercises
Rigid bodies are objects that do not deform their shape when subjected to forces. Rigid body dynamics deals with the study of the movement and equilibrium of these objects, considering both the forces and the torques (or couples of forces) that act on them.
Fundamental Concepts
- Torque: The torque M with respect to a point is given by the formula:
M = F \cdot d
where F is the applied force and d is the perpendicular distance from the point of rotation to the line of action of the force.
- Equilibrium of Rigid Bodies: A rigid body is in equilibrium if the sum of the forces and the sum of the torques acting on it are both zero:
\sum F = 0 \quad \text{e} \quad \sum M = 0
-
Center of Mass: The center of mass of a rigid body is the point where all the mass of the body can be considered to be concentrated. For symmetric objects, the center of mass is located at the geometric center.
-
Rotation: A rigid body can rotate around an axis. The angular acceleration \alpha is related to the net force and torque by the following relationship:
M = I \cdot \alpha
where I is the moment of inertia of the body with respect to the axis of rotation.
Exercises Example
- Exercise 1: A rigid rod of length 2 \, \text{m} and mass 4 \, \text{kg} is hanging at one end. What is the torque about the hanging end if a force of 10 N is applied to the other end perpendicular to the rod?
Solution:
The distance d is 2m:
M = F \cdot d = 10 \, \text{N} \cdot 2 \, \text{m} = 20 \, \text{N m}
- Exercise 2: A rigid body of mass 6 kg is in equilibrium on an inclined plane. If the force of gravity acts on it, calculate the normal force N if the angle of inclination is 30°.
Solution:
The gravitational force P is:
P = m \cdot g = 6 \, \text{kg} \cdot 9.81 \, \text{m/s}^2 = 58.86 \, \text{N}
The component of the gravitational force perpendicular to the plane is:
N = P \cdot \cos(30^\circ) = 58.86 \cdot \frac{\sqrt{3}}{2} \approx 50.96 \, \text{N}
- Exercise 3: A rigid body of mass 10 kg rotates around an axis. If the moment of inertia I of the body with respect to the axis of rotation is 5 \, \text{kg m}^2 and the applied torque is 15 N*m, what is the angular acceleration \alpha?
Solution:
We use the relation between torque and angular acceleration:
M = I \cdot \alpha \implies \alpha = \frac{M}{I} = \frac{15 \, \text{N m}}{5 \, \text{kg m}^2} = 3 \, \text{rad/s}^2
